Low Interest in a Topic (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - How do you get passionate about a subject that you're assigned but don't really care about? - Greg McWhorter

Performance Anxiety (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Performance anxiety goes beyond simply fear or nerves. This is the type of anxiety that can make your legs lock and your mind go completely blank.
While undemanding techniques work for general nerves it takes much more than that for performance anxiety.

Hostile Audiences (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - I am about to give a short learning session to a
group of professional presenters. The
presentations are "special" in that the audience
does not want to hear the message. The
information being presented is about changes and
new ways of doing their business that they
potentially don't want to hear.
Interview (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - PETER: What is the key difference between a great speaker and an average speaker?
PAUL: The key difference is knowing and understanding how to apply the principles of speaking. Average speakers HOPE a technique or story will work.
25 Confidence Boosters #1 Compliments (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Be on the listen out, not just look out, but listen out for compliments. When people tell you that you look good or you dressed well or ask if you lost weight, instead of shrugging it off like we all tend to do, absorb those, listen to those and allow that to go inside you. Eye Contact for the Blind (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Q: Hi Paul! Here is a question that perhaps was not posed to you before. My talk is mostly motivational/inspirational, focusing on my success as a blind person in the work force...what to do about eye contact!?
Do not read, do not memorize, learn. Know your material intimately. Practice, not the words but the ideas, the points. Become the message.
2) Fidgeting.
Nothing is more distracting than a speaker who constantly fidgets, paces, fumbles with papers, microphones etc.
What Do I Speak About? (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Dear Paul, I am so interested in your program on speaking success. I have always wanted to be a public speaker and I do want to purchase your program. My only problem is...how can I be a public speaker if I don't really have an actual, unique subject?
Boldness in Meetings (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Question - can you provide tips on what makes an individual perform well in group discussion at meetings?
1. Knowing that he/she is valued, admired, and taken seriously by others in the group.

Speaking to Not AT the Audience (Jan 6, 2009 at 12:14 AM) - Fear of public speaking doesn’t just hurt you it hurts the audience. It harms the crowd because the number one response to nervousness is to “just get through it.” That attitude makes us self-centered instead of others-centered.
Just getting through it causes many speakers to avoid eye-contact, becoming negatively “you” based, and rush through the message in a monotone voice.
