Quick Tip from a Seminar

"Speak with passion, or leave me a note" is always at the top of this letter. However, that's not an excuse to produce low to no content. That thought hit me at a seminar I attended...

The first speaker on Friday night had a great outline. I never got lost and knew exactly what he was talking about. Looking over my page and a half of notes everything is still clear. He didn’t overpower with energy, but he came prepared.

The second speaker got up without notes and I thought, “Alright, this guy is ready to bring down the house.” He had us repeating him in a near yell right out of the gate. Then…he started reading from a book he co-authored. He read from all over the thing. The book is great, I’ve read it. I’VE read it – most of the audience had as well - so there was no need for him to read it again.

ZZZzzzzz.

The first speaker was clear, but lacked passion. The second poured passion, but after questioning a couple of attendees, none of us really got the point, or points, or whatever.

So here’s the point of this section:

Passion is awesome. It takes decent speakers and makes them great. However, passion without content is simply entertainment.

Imagine spending a few hundred dollars for an event. Imagine getting primed and pumped by the speaker. Imagine barely being able to sleep because of the energy. Imagine closing your eyes and thinking, “Wait a minute. What did he/she say? I don’t remember anything I can actually use.” Now you can’t sleep because you’re mad.

You’ve been ripped off by motivation without application.

When you are sharing information – be clear. Have an easy to follow, “can’t get lost” outline. First, so YOU can’t get lost. Second, so the audience can share in knowing where you are.

Warm Regards,

Paul Evans
