Public Speaking Loverage
Mark Victor Hanson uses the term “loverage” in his book, “The One Minute Millionaire.” It’s a combination of all your personal assets and love.
Love exponentially multiplies effectiveness. A word from someone you love and who loves you contains more meaning and creates more action. Add love to your presentations. Not gushy 7th grade infatuation love. Love that says, “I care and want the best for you.”
You can do that by being sincere. Wanting the audience to go home talking about how they can’t wait to apply the message, not how great a speaker you are. Being easy to work with. Meeting people before and after the event just to get to know them. Writing thank you notes. Giving part of your free to a charity. Following up with those who gave you a business card.
Loving is incredibly simple. Maybe too simple. All it requires is that we pay attention to others more than ourselves. Do that and you will immediately be ahead of 97% of all speakers on the planet.
What about the other 3%? They actively pursue speaking perfection. They read, study, and apply. They invest in the craft because they know how great the return will be. But above it all they love people.
